      Krispy Kreme

      18 December 2005

I started eating Krispy Kreme Doughnuts about 60 years ago purchased from the KK store on North Person St in Raleigh, NC. I believe they sold for 45 cents a dozen at that time. The original glazed version is my favorite. KK Shops are among the few places where you can see and eat donuts as they come off the line, hot and fresh. They are high on the list of my favorite things. If you buy them in a box at a store you need to put one in the microwave for about 18 seconds to revive it. It makes all the difference in the world. They melt in your mouth (not in your hand)!

    • A great product

      Tang

      18 December 2005

Tang is a great product. When it came on the market, my mother, a devoted tea drinker, started using Tang to sweeten her hot tea. There is also a great Russian Tea recipe using Tang, instant tea and cloves, but I don't have it handy. Tang is also soothing to a sore throat if heated.

      Fisher Space Pen

      19 December 2005

The Space Pen was developed by the Fisher Company on their own, early in the US Space program and has been used on nearly all if not all US and Russian space flights since it was developed. It can write upside down, in weightlessness, in scorching heat or freezing cold, underwater, over greasy spots and other places that lesser pens don't stand a chance. They are available in many models. My favorite is the Bullet Model. It is smooth at both ends, about 3 5/8ths inches long when capped and about 5 3/8ths when opened and the cap posted. You can drop it in any pocket and always have a pen at the ready. The Bullet Model is available with or without a removeable clip. I never leave home without it.

    • They called her Duke

      Duke's Mayonnaise

      19 December 2005

I was born in South Carolina in the early 1940's but soon moved to NC. Whenever we would go “back home" to SC to see our relatives, they all called my mother, "Duke". This puzzled me as a child, because her name was Elizabeth and no one in NC ever called her Duke. When I was older, I finally asked Mother why her family called her Duke. She told me that as the youngest in the family she was somewhat spoiled and refused to eat any mayonnaise except Duke's. So they called her Duke. I suspect that most of her nieces and nephews didn't even know the story behind her name. I didn't myself for years, but it’s true. Mother will be 93 in Jan 2006, and is still Duke to the few in her family she hasn't outlived.

      Ebay

      19 December 2005

I love eBay, but I wish I had never heard of it. I'm addicted. I can't stay away from it. I like to always have something coming in the mail from eBay. Do they have a 12 step program?

    • A cool company

      FedEx

      19 December 2005

FedEx is a cool company. Do you see the arrow in their logo? Had you seen it before I asked? Some people can't see the arrow. Can you? It's so obvious after you see it.
