DailyCandy has transcended tradition with its own unique strain of viral marketing: the personal mass email. And they have grown from a small listerv into a phenomenon. I subscribe to each edition and devour the write ups packed with randomly chic tips and interesting links. It's become my routine in the morning to open my inbox, and read through each cleverly written blurb (accompanied by fantastically whimsical illustrations) while sipping a perfect cup of earl grey tea. All this to say, it would be very difficult to give up my Candy!
Keith Urban is a force in country music. He has worked tirelessly to perfect his craft, ultimately becoming one of the most loved and well-known singers in the world across genres while still remaining 100% true to his roots. He is an international star who is hugely talented and down to earth (not an easy combination). His music is irresistible. His songwriting honest. When I have a KU cd playing in my car, I can drive for hours. True authenticity is rare. This Aussie couldn't be a cooler breath of fresh air.
Ivar's is more than just the quintessential Seattle landmark it is often defined as, it represents my childhood in one deliciously comforting locally-owned restaurant chain. My memories are wrapped up in trips to this cozy place where I could always be guarenteed perfectly crisp fish and chips accompanied by the ultimate tangy tarter sauce. Many a family meal was shared around those old wood slab tables, looking out on Puget Sound and the weathered seagulls who would find treasure in a randomly tossed french fry on the pier. When I look back, I can still smell the scent of malt vinegar in the air.
I just bought my first set of Moleskine notebooks. A package of 3 ruled cahiers. The moment I selected them on the shelf, I began anticipating the possibilities of what I could write in these perfectly designed journals. And I thought of all the reknowned artists who have used them before me. I can't wait to get started. I know I'll be buying these for years and years.
Starbucks is the place I go to for a 5-minute vacation from a hectic day. I love jetting in for a caramel macchiato or whole milk latte. I never choose drive-thru. The experience of walking in the door, waiting in line, ordering and watching the barista craft my drink is all part of the relaxation process. And for that brief moment when I’m walking back to my car, I take a sip and pretend that I’m meandering along an Italian cobblestone street after a simply perfect, espresso-sipping, leisurely breakfast at an outdoor cafe.
Like having an enriching conversation with old friends
KING FM is a Seattle fixture, serving the Pacific Northwest with outstanding classical programming for nearly sixty years. More than just the fantastic music they consistently play, it’s how the announcers bring it to life that makes this station unique. I never tire of Steve Reeder and Brad Eaton’s soothing voices as they describe Beethoven or Bach. I love how Sean MacLean crafts a story around Vivaldi through vivid sensorial descriptions of the pure emotion conveyed by the composer. It’s as though I’m having an enriching conversation with old friends whenever I tune in. Never stuffy, KING FM is truly for any generation. As a young professional (and longtime listener), I appreciate the station just as much as those my parents’ age. May KING FM continue to enrich the Seattle community and the lives of those who listen on the radio and on the Web. There simply is no substitute!
Every item imaginable seems somewhere magically housed
“The Art & Soul of Cooking” – what a perfect tagline. I first discovered Sur La Table walking through Pike Place Market in Seattle years ago. Hardwood floors and natural light from clear windows greeted me immediately. From that first visit, I was hooked on the possibilities the store represented. The time spent lingering in each aisle, looking with wonder at the beautifully crafted culinary objects I came across. Every item imaginable seems somewhere magically housed within those walls. Crazily expensive pots and chef knives that only the most proficient culinary expert could possibly appreciate. But there they are, for sale for any kitchen commoner to purchase and use. But it’s more than just what Sur La Table offers on its shelves that made me fall in love. It’s the sense that you’re part of a select group of people who “get it” every time you set foot in the store.
