    • At an astonishing $58 each, but fits like a glove

      Le Mystere Bra

      16 November 2005

On a recent sojurn to Seattle I dropped a generous amount on a silk chiffon layered pink and plum Betsey Johnson dress. This gorgeous gown required the right lingerie and I enlisted the assistance of a bright young thing at Nordstrom's to find the perfect bra to disappear beneath three-hundred dollars of gauzy material. For those in the know, the Le Mystere bras retail at an astonishing $58 each, but fit like a glove. The result: low clearance and an enhanced décolletage. I am a 34DD, all the enhancing in the world does nothing if I fall out. Le Mystere makes a plum plunge and push-up bra that created such a stunning neckline that both the saleswoman and I were shocked speechless. I bought three bras.

    • As comfortable as "lace butter"

      Hanky Panky

      18 November 2005

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal by Gwendolyn Bounds touted the success of an independent, woman-owned company called Hanky Panky. They've re-invented the thong. And what they have come up with is a stretchy, lacy, sexy little number which is not sized, only comes in two styles and is priced at $15 US. I am not a regular reader of the WSJ, therefore it was fortuitous that I came upon the front-page article. As a graphic designer and female consumer (a dangerous combination) I am a sucker for advertising and needed to know first hand if the silken undergarment offered the most sexiest of comforts. The next day while shopping locally, I happened upon the Hanky Panky panties and recognized the shape from the sketch in the WSJ and I snatched up a lavender pair only to return for more…they were as comfortable as "lace butter".

    • You spent how much on a bra?

      Agent Provocateur

      18 November 2005

"You spent how much on a bra?" He shouted, looking a tad bit angry. “It's the best fitting bra ever.” I refrained from mentioning their seductive store and website, from saying anything else. So I smiled, ran both hands along my body and repeated the figure. "It had better be able to do the dishes, make the bed and drive me to a movie for that price." He was on the verge of being angry. And so I began to unbutton my shirt, slowly revealing the beautifully embroidered lace, the luxurious fabric and the sheer lavender of the bra, exposing more than covering. As I slid the shirt from my body, I lovingly said, “I actually bought two." He paused. He smiled. He had no more words to say. We didn't eat dinner that night. No movie either. But the bed needs to be made.

    • Changing forever the way I selected what I ate

      Whole Foods

      21 December 2005

From my first visit I was enchanted. Whole Foods is a temple worshipping all things gourmet. From the organic produce to all the deli items, I start salivating the moment my body enters the store. Each location I have visited has left an indelible mark within my stomach and soul. The Massachusetts location is where I lost my organic virginity - changing forever the way I selected what I ate. When in Portland I never pass an opportunity to head downtown to gaze at the colorful varieties of the heirloom tomatoes. In Louisville, I introduced my father to the wonders of the pastry case, together we bonded over fresh macaroons and cheesecake. There is no WF in my town, but I look forward to visiting the new store in downtown Seattle during my upcoming travels. I am debating securing a hotel room with a stove just for the occassion.

    • I knew wanted to get involved

      Capital City Public Market

      09 January 2006

In 1994, I had just relocated to Boise, Idaho from Boston and I was in love with the weather, the mountains, the people (and driving skills superior to Bostonians). The first weekend in spring I wandered downtown and happened upon The Market, a very local happening. Along with filling my arms with fresh flowers, organic produce and local artwork, I knew wanted to get involved. The Market is such a wonderful part of the city, a true gem for everyone; promoting downtown and sustainable agriculture and artists and musicians.

    • Transports me every time

      Caress Daily Silkening Body Bar

      03 November 2006

In a 5-star hotel bathroom; a spa shower with a view of the Deschutes River; or my chartreuse tiled bathtub...wherever I am when I open that new box of Caress, my thoughts are the same. Age 13, when my mother & I visited the store for “first day of school” supplies and, for the first time, the list included toiletries (we were now required to shower after gym). Traumatic, for me, but my mother felt it was a sign of womanhood and allowed me to choose the bath-soap. I chose Caress. The pink box was, “oh! So feminine,” the casual script “Caress,” so Adult. Once home, I revealed the shapely bar in the privacy of my bedroom, the scent of my blossoming sensuality forever tied to this bar of soap. Today, at 35, I feel there is nothing like a virgin Caress, the feminine fragrance right-out-of-the-box transports me every time.

    • My skin receives the accolades it deserves

      The Scented Room

      10 December 2006

With hundreds of thousands of nerve endings just begging to be touched, your skin craves a caress as much as it craves care. I have a personal experience with skin (we all do). But having moved from the deciduous forests of Wisconsin to the desert plateau of Boise, mine is a territory much confused. The arid climate of the west has wreaked havoc on the sensitive landscape of my epidermis, so I sought relief. A one-woman company called The Scented Room creates bath scrubs rich with healing oils and all-natural ingredients. Soaking at night in a tub filled with lavender salts relieves my stress. A morning coffee scented shower-scrub invigorates me for the day. My skin receives the accolades it deserves, smooth and glowing courtesy of The Scented Room’s handmade scrubs. They are with me always, great gifts and essential bath care that heal and beautify in one glorious moment.

    • Hauling pair after pair across the country

      Vasque

      06 February 2007

Women can quickly fall into a very scary category of ‘footwear fanatic’ when their collection numbers in the hundreds. Runners are known to be loyal to a brand for decades, so much so that the brand name practically embeds itself into the skin. I am both, and as a female runner I am quite fond of my Vasque trail runners. So fond, in fact, that my loyalty knows no bounds. I proudly display mud-encrusted sneakers tied to my carry-on as I traverse airports while wearing a cashmere coat and heels. I lovingly tuck them into overhead compartments, hauling pair after pair across the country and around the world in search of dirt to run upon and miles to cover. It does not matter the featured color of the year; I buy my Vasques in bulk, often putting 500 miles behind me in the span of 8 weeks. I walk everywhere, I run when the trails are right and the trails are always right when I’m outfitted in my well-loved Velocity trail runners. These shoes are lightweight, breatheable and organically beautiful…sort of like a good friend. As sexy as ‘motion control’ sounds, it’s essential when rounding a sharp bend in a trail as you descend a mountain. The Vasque Velocity trail runners have become an extension of my body, the criss-cross tread is a lovemark I place upon the earth with each step.
