What's really cool about the place is that it simulates a war bunker and you don't really know that it's there except for a few bouncers standing outside - Khoury's take on the 'collective amnesia' vis a vis the wars in Lebanon. Was personally more entranced by anohter Khoury creation - Yabani on Achrafieh.
Mercan Dede, or his alter ego, Arkin Allen, presents a much needed spiritual dimension without the 80's overtones of being cliched or preachy. Beautiful, haunting music- suffusing techno beats with the traditional ney, yielding a new genre that has been dubbed 'sufi electronica'. Mercan Dede's remark that 'Sufism is about counterpoint' probably sums up the approach best.
