    • It reflects who I see myself as...

      Tommy Bahama

      27 June 2005

The style, design, and the fabrics make me feel a part of the Island culture. A place where I can escape, I'm relaxed, and oh so cool. Just the touch of these articles of mere clothing can change my attitude regarding almost everything for the better. It reflects who I see myself as...or would want to be - smooth, tasteful, cool, and exotic. I would simply describe this brand as ... "Hanging loose with great style".

    • Uniform of the global citizen...

      Ex Officio

      27 June 2005

Ex Officio's line of clothing is amazing to travel in, anywhere in the world. It has become one of the uniforms of the global citizen. Functional to wear, pack, and keeps you protected from UV exposure as insects (BuzzOff line of products). It makes you feel like you are leading an adventurous life, even when all you are doing is dressing for casual Friday. When you are globe hopping you can enjoy more by carrying less all while looking like a million bucks. These cloths just feel great to wear while giving you flexibility to go and do whatever, whenever.

    • Now that's brand culture

      Starbucks

      28 June 2005

I have loved this company from the very first day I walked into their one and only Pike Place store located in the Market. Was it the amazing aroma of the beans roasting in back, the worn wooden floor that creaked in just the right places, or the feeling I got every time I walked in that I was a member of an intimate group of true coffee lovers ? Yes! Now that's brand culture - Lovemark !

    • What real coolness was all about

      Dave Brubeck Quartet (The)

      29 July 2005

From 1959 to 1967 The Dave Brubeck Quartet, Brubeck (keyboards), Desmond (sax), Wright (bass), and Morello (drums), clarified for me what real coolness was all about. Their music is clean, elegant, smooth, suave, debonair, and timeless, like a dry martini at midnight. At the same time they were hot, driving rhythms of 5/4, 7/4, and 13/4 turning the jazz scene upside down. They took complex patterns, sounds, and made them simple, flowing out as the texture of a new world sound. This quartet ignited our imaginations, senses, and was the score of life to all who wanted to be a part of the global community of cool.

    • Allen Edmonds just like Dad

      Allen Edmonds

      16 September 2005

These shoes have what I'm looking for in a product, style, quality, and a commitment to their customer. Not only do these shoes make me feel like I've blown my shoe budget for the next year, when I haven't, but AE will rebuild any of their shoes years after to like new condition, I've done this. I could pass these down to my son...except he has size 14 feet, but he does wear Allen Edmonds just like Dad.

    • The simple milestones in life

      Padron cigars

      16 September 2005

Taste, appearance, smell, touch, quality, and a sense of history. These cigars sparked many conversations, memories of weddings, beginnings and ends of life, of friends, thoughts of the simple milestones in life, as well as fantastic cosmic cogitations, always bring enrichment to me. Amazing that something as simple as the touch, look, and smoke of these cigars could promote such life experiences. Did I mention great golf stories?

    • I have re-imagined what a hero is

      Tom Peters

      17 September 2005

I have re-imagined what a hero is and its Tom Peters. When you first hear his fiery rantings you think.."Ok, this is Don Quixote. Where are the windmills"? But then you start getting it - why he's so passionate. He's trying to help us find our dreams again, why we loved what we did years ago. The rest of the world still dreams of success that we in America take for granted, and that's why they will pass us by because they still chase their passionate dreams. We need to re-emerge from the fog of business and go kick some...windmills. Thanks Tom for still caring!

    • What a treat

      XM Satellite Radio

      30 September 2006

What a treat! To go back to your youth listening to The Lone Ranger, jump from Bob Marley to Bach, take in some political debate of the Beltway, and then finish up with how the traffic's going to make you crazy good or just crazy. Not bad for just a radio...

    • Right on the Lovemark

      Boeing

      05 September 2007

Absolutely! Boeing is right on the Lovemark code with their new Brand Identity. Boeing has captured the magic of flying all over again for humans. As a child I saw the world through the eyes of my Aunt and Uncle and their travels spanning the globe. Different people, different cultures, different sites and experiences, and my growing collection of BOAC bags excited my imagination. When I flew for the first time I immediately became aware that all of my hopes and dreams as a child were becoming a reality. I was now a member of this community of global citizens. During the 787 Dreamliner rollout ceremonies on July 8th, I had the very great privilege to have a conversation with Mr. Joe Sutter, the Father of the 747. I asked him what he was feeling as he watched another high-risk leap of faith aircraft roll into existence. He said that he felt same sense the history as he did when he launched the very first 747-100. History was being made, and the people of the world were going to be the winners. I love the feeling of being a part of global history in the making, and opening doors for people around the world to experience the dreams of flight, and to become citizens of the world!

    • Every big boys dream car

      AC Cobra

      01 May 2008

This car, the amazing sound, the speed, and wind screaming in your hair. I can still remember the sting of it whipping around my face. The age of pounding powerful machines that blew the doors off of the world, this really is the DNA of this truly American icon. It was, and is, the American redesign of the little European sports car...on steroids...I mean 'protein drink'...and this monster machine of maleness was conceived, designed, and built by the father of cool cars Mr. Carroll Shelby. Every big boys dream car.

    • Virgin America wins

      Virgin America

      01 May 2008

“Loyalty is hard to earn…but easy to lose”…this is Virgin America’s customer service philosophy and mission focus with which they plan to take over the low fare market with style and customer service. With the amazing list of passenger amenities, customer service, you forget this is the low fare carrier you found on the Internet searching for the cheapest rate. SURPRISE! Did I mention they did have the lowest price…go figure! Cabin mood lighting, tinted passenger windows, a self serve mini bar, the passenger can actually decide when and what to order for food and drinks from their seat with their In-seat handset controller. Watch live TV, movies, video games, send E-mails, or set up a chat room with other passengers onboard…Wow! Not to worry my techno friends…they have complete connectivity with power, USB, and Ethernet. They say it’s just like being in your living room, well their living room has a much better view, and is more connected than mine ever will. They even play background music while you broad and de-board the aircraft…I thought that was too expensive to do in this day and age. Their staff are fresh and friendly…definitely didn’t come from one of the big carriers…glad to say. The leather seats, the clean design elements around the cabin, cool ‘designer’ black bits n bobs…you truly feel as though you were in a Tier 1 carrier's First Class section. As for my family…the vote is in and Virgin America wins! Look out Southwest and Jetblue you’ve got company coming.

    • An inspiration of noble courage

      Aung San Suu Kyi

      07 May 2008

I have friends who live in a remote village providing food, medicine, and documenting human right violations in the country of Burma. I’ve had this heart connection with a land and people for almost 3 decades now, helping when I could, but always on my heart and mind. This gentle land has been the victim of such violence, horror, loss of freedom, and most recently devastated by a storm that may have killed over 20,000 souls. What can be done? But then there’s this one woman…This woman is an inspiration of noble courage, determination, and conviction for the people of Burma, in the face of raw aggression in the form of a military junta that has kept her under house arrest for almost 2 decades. The elections of 1990 made her the Prime Minister of Burma, as leader of the National League for Democracy party. The ‘Generals’, as they are called, rose in armed rebellion placing control with a military junta, keeping this woman under house arrest ever since. Most of her advisors are now dead, or imprisoned. In her famous speech “Freedom From Fear” she stated… “It is not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it, and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it”. She was awarded the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize. The committee made this mention...“The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 1991 to Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar (Burma) for her non-violent struggle for democracy and human rights...Suu Kyi's struggle is one of the most extraordinary examples of civil courage in Asia in recent decades. She has become an important symbol in the struggle against oppression...In awarding the Nobel Peace Prize for 1991 to Aung San Suu Kyi, the Norwegian Nobel Committee wishes to honour this woman for her unflagging efforts and to show its support for the many people throughout the world who are striving to attain democracy, human rights and ethnic conciliation by peaceful means.” Her life speaks volumes. You have to love it - the dream of freedom!

    • Like light filling a room

      Pat Metheny

      21 May 2008

His music is like light filling a room, filling this space with airy energy as it soars higher and higher bringing the listener along on an amazing flight of emotions expressed through music. His sound has impacted the entire globe as his fans span every geographic locale, age group, male, female, socioeconomic layer, liberal/conservative it doesn't matter we all agree this is what we want. From passionate Latin-Jazz to choral hymns, classical guitar to experimental jazz, everything is on the table for his creations. He breaks all boundaries of style and sound. The flow of his songs resonates with the natural rhythms of life, surging, rising, falling, the quietness of a child sleeping, and joyously explosive expressions of love for this man as this enormous throng of fans sing along with him while he tells his tales in open air concerts. He is loved!

    • The One

      Selmer Mark VI Saxophones

      29 May 2008

I have always loved the Selmer Mk 6 line of horns from the time I started playing in jazz clubs when I was sixteen in 1968. Why? The Mark VI is probably the most famous horn in the world because it had “it”, and because my hero’s all played them, John Coltrane for one. If you wanted a pro horn in 1960’s there really was only one choice. Selmer. Just outside of DC in a music store that pros dealt with, my dreams for the perfect horn came to true. Upon my arrival I was taken to a back room where before me were stacks and stacks of Selmer Mk 6 Tenor saxophones, they said "Have fun". Not a problem... I spent the next hour or 2 playing tenor after tenor until I found IT… “The One”. You know “It -The One” when you feel like you’ve found a missing part of your body, the Love of your life, actually that came later when I met my wife. It was like my Porsche, hot, fast, and nimble in the curves, and yet has this deep rich throaty sound that resonates with your soul…What wasn’t there to love?
