    • A little bit of Gollum in all of us

J.R.R. Tolkien & Lord Of The Rings

      03 December 2003

Lord of the Rings and other Tolkien works have been a part of my family for thirty years, and the fidelity to the soul of the Rings Trilogy has charmed me completely. I especially enjoyed the use of old theater gestures, characterizations and "bits of business" that my children would otherwise have never seen. Mixed with the influences of the present to make it easy for the audience to relate, and the futuristic concepts in the tech, the overall effect won lots of applause from this lady. I prayed for the healthy richness of the Brothers Hildebrandt art...and in that, they delighted me, too. Some of the casting gave me a pause...good and ill. There is a little bit of Gollum in all of us, but thank goodness..there is also Aragorn!

    • Celebrate The White House!

      White House, Washington

      13 April 2007

A recent visit to the White House was not my first, and when I returned, my Lovemarks newsletter was in my email box. I thought: "I’m going to go to the site and see if the White House is among the Lovemarks, and if not, I will nominate. This nomination should not take much explanation. We love Freedom, we love Government by the People, we love a thing that has endured and remained beautiful to the eyes and to the heart. The White House is all that and much more. I am American, so to me, it is part of me, and it enhances my identity. I am better because the White House exists. Its Passion, Power, failings, winnings, triumphs, disasters and most of all, the jubilant life it has fostered and witnessed, in pristine beauty and endurance: a silent witness that sings and speaks more eloquently than any other. The White House. If you still wonder: imagine no White House. Then you might want to vote it among the leaders in the Lovemarks list. If more of us remembered to be not afraid to experience and share and express and teach true love of country and its symbols, we could not possibly have suffered a 9/11 to begin with. I hope this nomination will make it easier for us all to Love one of the World’s best Lovemarks and Celebrate The White House!

    • Brings StarTrek to my house in one more way

      Skype

      30 April 2007

Skype is new for me, but I like it very much! Brings Star Trek to my house in one more way. My mother is deaf, but a great lipreader, and now, although my immediate family all live a distance from one another, we can all chat in real time, normally, and see that all of us are fine! In fact, I think that Skype should get itself included for the cash helps of adpative technology for seniors and disabled! On the lighter side: I cannot always travel and visit my friends worldwide, but Skype truly helps with virtual visits that include face-to-face chat, and views into one-another’s homes and offices! Pure fun! A real Lovemark!

    • He gets my vote

      Steve Jobs

    • Not one would fail to be impressed!

      Red Cross

      04 September 2007

The more I knew them the more I loved them. Red Cross is good. Paid and volunteer with them in 2 wars and Y2K, in US only, and on call for Saudi at ODS. I offer some of my art for their benefit always, because they are good. I just wish each person could spend 3 days on site with them in a crisis. Not one would fail to be impressed! I never knew anyone on earth could just "give" so much, outright, when needed, and yet keep track of it all, and uphold their solvency, with options for payback and much more. Especially since Katrina! I think we have all learned a lot. A natural disaster "over there" is a lot different from one at home. Please take a great community interest in YOUR local red cross. It is the only way to be sure your preparedness team is getting and giving what they need to be prepared, themselves, for the best response.

    • Exuding LIFE and love

      Luciano Pavarotti

      17 September 2007

I always thought that God must be like Pavarotti: exuding LIFE and love and all things that enhance them! It is no wonder that he was gifted to share this great heart with the world in a way that is immortal. His music and its recordings will keep him alive with us forever!

    • Once into it, it is yours forever

      Ghost (film)

      01 November 2007

Classic, romantic and fun - the 1990 Paramount film gets more popular each year! Patrick Swayze plays the "Ghost", Sam Wheat, murdered "one true love" of Molly Jensen, played by Demi Moore, With the help of psychic, Oda Mae Brown, with Whoopi Goldberg in the role. They team, dynamically, thru danger, to solve the murder, resolve the grief and save the day! All is done with grand love and humor and top skill! Once into it, it is yours forever, and a true Lovemark, by every description of the word. Why I love it? It's secret. The link is to the best source for data for it, since it is not active at the Paramount site, though they do have a reference page and you can buy the DVD there..and everywhere else.

    • THE Lovemark of Romantic French singers

      Charles Aznavour

      18 April 2008

If you enjoyed the film "Notting Hill", you probably melted when the song "She" carried the mood in the background. The song was translated into half a dozen languages and topped the charts. Charles Aznavour is THE Lovemark of Romantic French singers - the Classic. Wrote music for the famous Edith Piaf, whose biography won the Oscar 2008. Charles Anzavour was born in Paris, of Armenian Parents, and his real name was Shahnourh Varinag Aznavourian, May 22, 1924. The Armenian-French singer, songwriter, actor, and public activist, besides being one of France's most popular and enduring singers, is also one of the most well-known singers in the world. He is known for his characteristic short figure and unique tenor voice; clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravely and soulful low notes. He has appeared in more than 60 movies, composed about 1000 songs (including 150 in English, 100 in Italian, 70 in Spanish, and 50 in German), and sold well over 100 million records. Aznavour started his global farewell tour in late 2006. Happy family man, too! He earns his place among the Lovemarks!

    • Everyone has their own "Paul Newman" story

      Paul Newman

      11 October 2008

I live in Connecticut USA and Paul Newman and his wife Joanne Woodward lived nearby. He passed away a few weeks ago, and he was OUR Lovemark, specially, we like to think. He liked to live a normal homelife, so we did not hang around his home, helpless fans though we were. We all liked it that the famous Joanne Woodward was "Mrs. Newman" or "Joanne Newman" around town, helping in causes and theater, and minding her family with great love. Paul Newman, himself, would enjoy puttering about town, 'after something' , on some little errand, and if it came to a meeting with a fan, he was always friendly and gracious - so much so that everyone in the area has their own "Paul Newman" story and shared it again, with special love when he passed away. In fact, you will be entertained if you put "Paul Newman Story" in any good searchbox, because many have been lovely enough to share them in memory. He was very good-looking, right to the end, and won his "Mr. Cool" nickname, in the way he self-managed, right to the end. He excelled in his film skills, and he saved a respectable part of the world with his charities, which have grown, even more, in memoriam. Most of us can not be Paul Newman, and give and receive so much in life, but if we give as nicely and receive as happily and graciously, no matter how grand or humble , then the role of the icon is one that serves. He was Aquarius - an air and an energy, and his passing has only liberated his spirit, to help the rest of us, now that he is gone. Rest in peace and praise.

      Salvatore Ferragamo

Elegant styles and fine fit, Ferragamo has not lost the quality feel, and has been strong and brave about not giving in to lesser-quality trends.
