"Made in Scotland from girders" this claim accompanied IRN-BRU (Iron Brew). It offered a bubble-gum flavoured alternative to Coke & Co. High glucose and caffeine made it a pre-requisite for all-nighters in the university computer lab in the late 80's and early 90's. Any self-respecting Glaswegian cab driver would have a (glass) bottle wedged between the meter and the windscreen, probably to keep him awake when nothing happened in the small hours of the night and to keep him out of trouble with some of the roughs that populate Glasgow's streets after closing time. IRN-BRU was always there when we needed a "pick-me-up" and is veritably the best hang-over cure in the world. An important feature for a soft drink in Scotland. My drink, anytime I can get it.
