Amazon is amazing! I've been ordering from them since they were just a novel idea. I've always been able to count on Amazon - everything arrives, it gets here when it's supposed to, it gets sent to other people and the gift wrap is lovely, and it always provides just what I'm looking for. Many times Amazon has saved my last-minute birthday shopping problems, and one year everyting I bought for the winter holidays came from Amazon. It is a wonderful friendly place that I can count on!
The Apollo missions were daring, brave, and exciting. The mementos and vast new fields of knowledge were legacy enough (the whole world has been changed by seeing photos of itself!), but the best product is the overwhelming sense of hope!
Since my grandma became a Consultant in 1980, MaryKay has been in my life. The confidence Grandma gained was inspiring, and her lessons (protect your skin from the sun and keep it clean, makeup is fun but unimportant, IT'S ALL ABOUT SKIN CARE) have served me well.
I've never been "makeup-girl", but I've faithfully used MaryKay since I was 11, and I know from experience that I'd rather use just plain water then anything else. The philosophies and examples of MaryKay Ash and all Consultants (especially Grandma!) are astoundingly positive. Anything is possible with the right attitude, the Golden Rule is paramount, and have your priorities in order (Faith 1st, Family 2nd, Career 3rd; plan your work and work your plan) - I learned these from MaryKay; they are fine guides for life. My life was changed early and immensely for the better by MaryKay.
I've been listening to The Beatles all my life. I hum their tunes without realizing it, I sing along without thinking about it (and, with MY voice, I never sing along!), and I always stop the radio if I hear a note from them. Many mornings start with "Good Day Sunshine". I have a CD collection of over 300 albums, but most of my top 20 are by The Beatles. And as I was musing to my mother the other day, I find it practically impossible to feel sad when I am listening to John, Paul, George, & Ringo!
Everybody in my family plays Scrabble, and the ultimate victory is beating Grandma! This wonderful game can be played by anyone who can read, and we all enjoy it. I love Scrabble.
Thanks to the simplicity, low cost, and few ingredients (jello powder, water, optional ice), this is the first food each of my kids made for the family. It is a big satisfying thing for a 3 or 4 year old to be able to do everything (except pour the hot water) and present a yummy treat to the people who usually cook for him. For these memories alone, I will always love Jell-O!
I love my little Bialetti, and won't let my husband buy me a big expensive espresso machine. That might be "shinier", but this is comforting - and fun!
Their juices are healthy and I feel good drinking them. My kids love them too. R W Knudsen makes Spritzers that are basically carbonated juice, so I feel better about pop because we have Spritzers. And they actually make a cranberry juice (Cranberry Nectar) that I can stand!!!
This was quite a mind-expanding book for a 12 year old! It made an impression that lasted, and I remember enjoying it, so much so that I gave it to each of my little sisters when they got old enough.
When I was little, it was the taste of staying home sick in bed. It's still what I want to drink when I don't feel well, but the new Cherry 7Up rocks, too!
I was never a big fan of the cereal, although my brothers loved it. I remember the commercials, though, and have always thought "Let Mikey eat it! He'll eat anything!"
My family has deep roots in northern Alabama - we even have our own little mountain in the foothills of the Appalachians. This is a beautiful place and part of my heart lives here, among the wild strawberries and the blackberries, the green and all the wilds, most especially among my family.
Mr Rogers has been a gentle, respectful, stable influence for children for more than 30 years. The show was (and thanks to such an extensive catalog, providential funding, and timelessness IS) a real treat for children and parents. Fred Rogers is the real Lovemark for me, though. He embodied a loving, trusting nature, he was intelligent and knew how to treat everyone - especially children - with respect and openness. He encourages fun, imagination, curiosity, and learning. He has become an icon, and he worked tirelessly through every avenue available to him to encourage the healthy emotional growth of children and their families. A world of admiration, respect, and gratitude are almost enough.
The all-encompassing tea mindset is admirable, but their quality teas really capture my heart. They have a tea or a blend for every taste, mood, and situation, and I love them. Where would I be without my Vanilla Almond or British Breakfast and my calming tea ritual every morning?
I have been to Yosemite twice now, and am likely to give up trips to new places to be able to go back again and again as often as possible. It feels like I am coming home when I am there, and I have twinges of "homesickness" when I'm not there. I was born in Indiana, live in Ohio, have family all over the south, and am very fond of the appalachians, but Yosemite has my heart.
Due to woeful pronunciation on my part as a baby, I have been known as "Oreo" to my family for more than 30 years. Considering that they loved offering me my self-proclaimed namesake at every opportunity, I didn't spend any time correcting anyone. For years, I associated the O-R-E-O song with lullabys! Comfort food to this day, you can tell who has known me longest by whether I answer to "Oreo".
(On a side note, I also thought that the witch's army in Wizard of Oz was singing "Or-O, Or-E-O" til I was 10. It made the movie especially terrifying!)
I would hate living without my Danskos! I developed "turf toe" and plantar fascitis one summer. I started wearing NewBalance or putting up with awful pain. I also put up with an awful podiatrist. He ordered orthotics and told me they were it for any possible comfort. Then, while shopping for hiking boots ('cause who doesn't take their out-of-practice hurting feet hiking for a week in the Sierras?), the salesgirl brought out a pair of Danskos and had me try them out. My feet felt GOOD for the first time in over a year! I bought basic black and wore them nonstop (except for hiking) for 14 months before they wore out. They still looked good, but quit feeling good. I bought a replacement pair, and all was right again! I'm going to get more now that I know what miracles they are. I LOVE Danskos!
