  I was convinced when my son, a sushi chef, bought a Global deba and gave it a 100% rating. They are very beautiful- the sashimi knife makes cutting raw fish a Zen meditation! I wish they'd make a penknife...........

  The Kelly Kettle counts as Good Kit! It has a central chimney which makes it ultra-efficient, boiling 2.5 pints of water in 4 minutes, using a handful of twigs or just about anything natural which is burnable. The company is nice too, and respond to questions and suggestions.

  The Cobb Barbeque is good kit, which I define as: 1) Can reasonably be expected to last a lifetime. 2) Is currently available, and looks likely to remain so for the forseeable future. An example would be the Zippo lighter. 3) Is repairable, or has replaceable parts. 4) Works extremely well. 5) Looks good to me. This is quite a severe test, and eliminates most electronic gadgets, computers, tc.

  2009 sees the 50th anniversary of the humble-but-perfect Bambi stapler. Small, elegant and usually almost invisible, these tiny objects of desire have been our friends and companions for half a century, and deserve the title of Good Kit, in that they: Should last a lifetime, are repairable, are supported by available consumables, work perfectly and look nice to me. If this doesn't make sense, my reference point is the Zippo lighter.
