A heavenly dream
Huka Lodge
18 November 2003
Who doesn’t want to go to heaven? My Lovemark reminds me of heaven. We believe it exists but live merely in the hope of experiencing it rather than any real knowledge that we will. We read stories expounding its excellence. We hear the names of those privileged enough to taste it. We see the odd glorious photograph. However overall, it still remains a wonderful mystery. Huka Lodge, New Zealand, is my Lovemark. I picture the beautiful rooms, feel the crisp linen, smell the magnificent food, hear the rushing water. But it is all in my head, my fantasy rather than my reality. I tell myself that one day I will get there. But no one is pushing me. Instead, subtly I am fed tiny tidbits whetting my appetite to experience this marvellous place. Huka Lodge I don’t know you but I love you. Well, where would we all be without dreams?
Would they feel the same in the dark?
Apple
18 November 2003
After 14 years I’m still in love. To be honest, I don’t know why I feel this way. I’ve simply never wanted to give the other ones a go. I don’t even really know what the differences are… well apart from looks! In the end, I’ve been told both do almost the same things – one way or another. Would they feel the same in the dark? Perhaps deep down I know it’s the way you learn to handle them, how readily they respond to your needs, the way they do it. Or maybe there’s more to it? Richard Briers/George Clooney. PC/Apple Mac. What sort of idiot would divorce their soulmate? Apple Mac – you are my Lovemark.
Champagne verse
Veuve Clicquot
18 November 2003
Forget the other multitude, that taste somewhat the same, cost a fraction of the price, bear a different name. Oh joy of sipping bubbly that demands an arm and leg, transported to another plane, lifted up a peg. I guess the fact it’s real champagne, and not just sparkling wine, intensifies its mystery, exults it to divine. The taste, the feel, the smell, the sound, the gorgeous golden hue, no wonder I am passionate about this yummy brew! Champagne to me is not champagne by any other name. That subtle hint of honey, that label so distinct; when I was just a newborn babe, I’m told the glasses clinked. Veuve Clicquot is my Lovemark, if I may talk the talk. There’s no way I’ll deny the magic when I pop the cork.
An ode to creative transformation
Clairol
08 December 2003
Everybody needs to find, a way to self renew, that's simple, quick and portable, reliable and true. Hot Clairol rollers every day, at home or overseas. They take up barely any room, to use them is a breeze. And whether I want super chic, or just be to be a clown, This wondrous piece of wizardry, has never let me down I use them every single day, these rollers are my Lovemark, mundane as that may be. They really are my magic wand, I couldn't live without. Creative transformation, is what they're all about.
That whole rush of emotion
Lockwood Homes
12 December 2003
I experienced my first taste when I was a child. It was the purest of responses. I loved everything about it, the total way it made me feel. It touched every sense. Delicious magic thoughts, melted golden honey, magic forests, great creaking galleons, vast treasure chests. From that day on I wanted one. When I grew up I tried other sorts but they never, ever came even vaguely close. Then, at last I bought one. Twenty years later and I still love everything about it. Coming home from holidays, every time that whole rush of emotion returns. Sure I found out about its amazing practical aspects and I now I appreciate these as well. However, it is the way it makes me feel that tells me, if I can help it, I will never live in anything but a Lockwood home again.

Quality and integrity - always
National Geographic
29 March 2004
I've read everyone's descriptions of their Lovemarks with fascination and I have plenty of words to describe my own ; absorbing, enduring, innovative, reliable, exotic, inspiring, committed, affordable, adventurous, informative, mysterious, amusing, revealing, exciting, strange, colourful, depressing, subtle, daring, stimulating, magical, intimate, surprising, joyous, frightening; But scrap all that! When I strip my Lovemark bare I am left with two words - quality and integrity - always. My Lovemark has never let me down. That instantly recognisable yellow rectangle means far more than a name. It instantly conjures a feeling. To know is to love - National Geographic.
Value belongs in the heart
Eiffel Tower
31 March 2004
A brief but passionate affair... a dreamlike phonecall in the early hours from Singapore: "I'll be waiting for you at the Eiffel Tower". This is not about a steel structure but about a distillation of dreams - the essence of a city in a building - the very spirit of romance! No one can deny that as an engineering feat it's a marvel, the view superb. Who cares about queues and hawkers? Who really can care when it's so much more than that? The Eiffel Tower's value is intangible. Money simply doesn't come into it. Its value belongs in the heart. Written into novels, captured in masterpieces, grounded in history, etched uniquely into minds across the world. The magic emotions evoked by the Eiffel Tower mean that nothing, ever, could replace this amazing Lovemark.
International respect
Rolls-Royce
05 June 2004
Perfection, like beauty may lie in the eyes of the beholder. But quality? Never. Inspirational quality, international respect – you’ve just got to love it. As Sir Henry Rolls said "Strive for perfection in everything you do. Take the best that exists and make it better. When it does not exist, design it." No, I won’t be buying one but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t touch me. Rolls Royce – ‘Lovemark’.
Timeless Lovemark
Mona Lisa
25 June 2004
Enigmatic, mysterious, priceless. Like a magnet she draws roughly six million people to see her personally each year. However, her face is known to many millions more all over the world. Whatever you think of her, she holds a magic that has stood the test of time. So famous that you already know who I’m talking about: The Mona Lisa – a timeless Lovemark!
Rich, responsive, resonant
Stradivarius
29 June 2004
Rich, pure, refined, responsive, powerful, beautiful, resonant… For more than 250 years since Stradavari’s interpretation of geometry and design first served as a conceptual model for violin makers, musicians have held the Stradivarius violin in awe. And not just musicians. Most of us have never heard one played but who needs to? We all know it's the best. The ‘Strad’s’ reputation imbues such respect, it just has to be a Lovemark!
Where the only currency is good or bad deeds
Santa Claus
29 June 2004
Hands up if you have never, ever just once dreamed Santa Claus was real. Imagine the jolly old man – so kind, so wise – who knows you inside out and who brings you presents from a land where the only currency is good or bad deeds. He never overstays his welcome and visits only often enough so you can’t wait till he comes again! What an awesome concept – a real feel-good Lovemark!
Another way of saying happy feet
Hush Puppies
29 June 2004
The basset hound. The mental image of this floppy short dog evokes all kinds of emotions and feelings. For me, these are exactly what the trademark is saying – casual, comfortable, fun, and soft. As long as I can remember "Hush Puppies" has been another way of saying happy feet. I love them. Hush Puppies are a Lovemark I can enjoy every day!
Think warm fuzzies
Snoopy
06 July 2004
Think Snoopy. Think warm fuzzies. Snoopy engenders the most human emotions – affection and humour. We can relate to this little fellow and his quirky behaviour and he makes us feel good right through from his soft rounded body to his cheery optimism. You just can’t help the feeling when you think about Snoopy - everybody’s friend and I think, a rather special Lovemark.
Has me spellbound
6 billion Others
15 February 2008
I discovered it accidentally. Now few days pass without my dipping into its world – my world. Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s project “6 billion Others” has me spellbound. Yann is first and foremost a brilliant photographer specialising in aerial landscapes. While working on “Earth from Above” he decided to conduct a project to bring him closer to people. His website shows how he did this through collecting testimonies from around the world. 60,000 interviews have been filmed in over 65 countries. Some are merely seconds long. Every one is moving. Simple and honest, you look right into these people's eyes and souls. It becomes your neighbour talking - touching your heart. '6 billion Others' truly makes one see one’s own place in humanity – and though different, how alike we are. It is an amazing project and website and I feel privileged and inspired through it.
