Love their product
Apple

Love their product, they are innovators that rethink everything. But does anybody else feel like lately they are trying to hard to be the cool kid in school?
Ever evolving and ALWAYS surprising
Madonna
04 December 2007
Music is not even the defining factor when it comes to Madonna. She is the only artist I know that has discovered the elixir of eternal life. I have deep admiration for her continuous growth and rediscovery - her brand is a living organism that is ever evolving and ALWAYS surprising. One smart lady. My friend Mercy and I always go to her concerts together and the experience goes far beyond the music to involve all the senses. The stressful part is buying the tickets. It is a race against the clock that requires concentration and creativity! She sells out so fast!! We each set up our space wherever we are (water, food, pictures of our loved ones), pull ticketmaster numbers in every state and start calling through our cellphone and landline 5-10 minutes before they go on sale (while attempting to buy them through the website which doesn't always work). We keep tabs on each other's progress through messenger. It's always a celebration when the payment is finally processed!!!
Magic does exist after all
Salvador Dali
04 December 2007
If aliens walk this world, then Salvador Dali was definitively one. The highlight of living in Miami was having the Dali St Petersburg museum so close. I remember the first time I visited, I had only seen his work in books and the experience of being face to face with "him" was overwhelming. I can imagine the feeling would compare to seeing the ocean for the first time if you grew up away from the coast. You can never be prepared for the impact of his bigger pieces like hallucinogenic toreador and discovery of America...they are truly humbling, you realize you are in the presence of a genius and that magic does exist after all.
The power to stir emotions
Tango
04 December 2007
Few music genres/dances have the power to stir emotions the way tango does. A blend of passion, nostalgia and despair.
Canon is solid
Canon

What can be more upsetting than being in the presence of the perfect picture moment and having a camera that under performs? Canon is solid... I am amazed by the difference from the competition, especially when it comes to capturing color and depth.
Opening a treasure chest

What a great portal! It is like opening a treasure chest, you never know what you will find.
Completely blown away
Bjork
14 December 2007
I remember the first time I saw/heard Bjork. I was 14, living in Uruguay, and visiting Miami during my winter holidays. I was swapping channels and all of a sudden I saw this little lady, dressed all in beige - so plain and simple, with this amazing robotic out-of-this-world voice. WOW. It took me 3.2 seconds to be completely blown away! I returned to Uruguay with her cds and tales of a magical Icelandic creature with the voice of an angel. I was lucky enough to see her in concert in SF this year and it was all I imagined and more.
It will always be home
Uruguay
07 February 2008
Forgotten by so many that have never cast a second glance to this little piece of the South American map, unforgettable for those of us who have grown walking its streets filled with history and charm. A country of sun and endless beaches, of tango and candombe, of youth and old age, of soccer, of gauchos, of great theatre, great music, of endless beer bottles and pizza amongst friends sharing guitar tunes at dawn. Land of mate. Land of nostalgia for those of us that left and for those that remain. Uruguay is not only my hometown, it will always be home.
It's a win-win
Yelp.com
07 February 2008
One of my most reliable friends! I started using Yelp when I moved to San Francisco. With no friends or family to give me recommendations, I came to rely on Yelp for advice on everything, from plumbers to Burmese cuisine. Unlike real life friends, Yelp is available 24/7 and you don't need to buy it birthday and Christmas gifts. It's a win-win.
Hit in the nail the way I felt
Gwen Stefani
12 February 2008
I started listening to her when I was 15 or 16 and what really appealled to me was that her lyrics were so transparent. I remember through my transformation from teenage girl into young woman I could relate to so many of her songs. Listening to her albums felt like reading someone's diary. She opened herself completely in her songs and her vulnerability made her human, not a celebrity. It amazed me how she could hit in the nail the way I felt, in such a simple and real way. As a young girl, delicate but strong and ambitious I remember rocking on to Just a Girl. Ex-Girlfriend and Excuse Me Mr will forever remain the PERFECT breakup songs, they allowed me to unleash my anger in a frenzy of music and lyrics. Simple Kind of Life is pure nostalgia, uncertainty and self discovery. Listening to her lyrics from album to album is like reading chapters of a book. I have been following the story of her life like an avid reader, cheering for the heroine to win in the end. It looks like she has reached a moment of fulfillment and harmony in her life, coincidentally at the same time I have. I really look forward to hearing this chapter unfold.
A once a week treat to me
Nissin Demae Ramen
12 February 2008
It's pretty funny because I grew up in Brazil the first 6 years of my life and they had a version of ramen noodles that featured a famous local cartoon "turma da Monica", so I knew them all my life as the "Monica noodles". I had no idea they were a worldwide phenomenon, in my mind they were a brilliant Brazilian marketing invention! I then moved to Uruguay, a country devoid of Monica noodles...they became a delicacy to me. I would crave them and when I would travel to Brazil I would come back stocked. Needless to say when I moved to the US and found out they are cheaper than bus fare I was shocked!! Happily shocked!! I love to cook and I love preparing gourmet meals, but this 3 minute marvel is a steady once a week treat to me.
