    • It made me understand what I missed

      Turin, Italy

      21 February 2006

I know Turin because my boyfriend comes from there, but I fell in love with the city quite independently. The first time I visited Turin it made me understand what I missed in the USA during the previous year. It was great to feel and breathe culture when walking on the marble streets under "portici", admiring those grand buildings, marvelous churches, Mole Antonelliana, the river Po, the Alps...and while enjoying exquisite food and drinks which Turin contributed to the world. Turin has a great history of leadership and innovation; it has style and so much more to offer than a fame of an industrial city. Although I heard numerous stories about how awful it is to live there, it could never surpass my love for Turin. I am happy that the city is in the process of reinventing itself, starting with hosting the Olympic Games.

      Saint Petersburg

      21 February 2006

I have never visited St. Petersburg but I am very much in love with it. I was introduced to it through reading of Dostoevsky's characters strolling along its streets in vain; there he lived and wrote his masterpieces. I know that apart from the wonderful architecture and fantastic Hermitage Museum, so many things are awaiting me once I get to visit it. It goes so far that I display a great liking of men from St. Petersburg, needless to say, mostly only because they are from St. Petersburg!

    • My reference in the confusion of reality

      Dostoevsky

      21 February 2006

Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevky is one of the greatest writers ever. His deep psychological and philosophical insights, narrated so naturally, became my reference in the confusion of inner and outer reality. In each book there is something, an event, a character, a phrase, with which I can strongly identify myself. I often recall them later for comfort or justification of my perhaps “weird” behavior as perceived by others. I even started to like pears much more after I found out they were his favorite fruit, and I used to call them Fyodor.

    • I look great in it!

      Missoni

      10 August 2008

When I lived in Milan I used to stop in admiration in front of one shop window; that’s where I saw Missoni for the first time. I never dared to enter; those dresses were out of my reach. At the time I was searching for my ideal fashion brand: of them all in Milan, it was only the colorful one behind the shop window that I could completely identify with. Now, in Paris, when I went shopping for my second wedding dress, I spotted Missioni in the department store, but I hurried away because it was not what I was supposed to look for. A week later I had to come back to have a closer look…yes, my blue Missoni dress doesn’t fit to the wedding but I can’t care less. I love the design, I love the colors and quite modestly - I look great in it!
