Wow, I want to buy everything
3 years ago: The first and the only time I met AA I was in Mexico and I fell in love. From 3 years ago untill now: I receive every single newsletter thinking that I would love to buy something but I would also love to go to the shop and try everything. I miss the clothes, but more than that I miss being in the shop thinking "Wow, I want to buy everything, I don't know what to do!". 1 week ago: finally the first AA in Italy opened and after work I was already in the shop, very exciting and I tried everything...but I am too fat for the stretch dress and for the trousers. I was a little bit dissappointed because I wanted something from AA, so I decided not to give up and I bought socks, a scarf, t-shirts and underwear. Thank you AA because you are also in Italy and I'm sure that one day, I'll find one dress that fits me!

Sexy and modern basics
American Apparel is a smart company that makes sexy and modern basics. Can you get cheaper t-shirts and underwear? Yeah, but they won't feel nearly as good as products from American Apparel.

Durable and comfortable
I think that AA is great. I think they have a great selection of styles, which is continually growing, and their clothes are durable and comfortable. I only buy their shirts for my clothing company. I like their commitment to Sweatshop Free manufacturing.

My white liberal guilt
I was excited about supporting a clothing company that claimed not to rely on sweatshop labor. Until I went to the store. I considered the clothing poorly made and it only came in petite sizes. When I asked the salesgal if they had larger sizes I was dismissed with a response of "these are European sizes." Interestingly, the new store is located in a rapidly gentrifying area that has been historically Latino (Echo Park in Los Angeles, CA) but clearly this non-Euro demographic is not AA's target market. I didn't mind paying $18 for a tank top I could've bought for $6 at Target, if indeed that enormous mark-up actually goes to the workers who make the clothes. But I left the store feeling like I'd been had, that my white liberal guilt had been exploited through slick photography and graphic design.

Appalled
I have been apalled by what I have read about the behaviour of the founder of American Apparel (in an article in Jane magazine). After reading this I can't understand why anyone would buy his products.

Makes me stand up and cheer
A fantastic - and relatively young - brand with a conscience; ethical without being "granola". AA is a traditional manufacturing business that’s embraced technology to improve working conditions. They've got a mission statement that makes me stand up and cheer. They're intimate towards their clients and their staff. They use beautiful photography and friendly language to flatter those they love (and flatter those who love them back). They have a sharp wit, a sense of humour and more style than you can shake a stick at. It’s a totally modern brand destined for lotsa love! Oh… and DANG they make the nicest (best cut/styled/coloured) t-shirts in the world.
