Traditional and grassroots
This organization is dedicated to preserving genetic diversity in plants. I love it because it's traditional and grassroots but it also uses the internet to create an community. You can order plants and seeds online and in so doing pass down traditional (or heirloom) varieties that immigrants brought to the US generations ago. It's great that I can plant tomatoes in my garden that someone's great grandmother brought over from Sicily - what a wonderful sense of continuity.
