  • They are songs that encapsulate all the emotions

A melodic tune from Crowded House whether belted out on a stereo while you sit out on your deck with a few friends and a few more beers, or niggling at your subconscious while supermarket shopping, inspires a sense of belonging. Their songs act as signposts for the memorable and ordinary moments in my life. Their songs can be sung along to in the car on a summer’s day when the air conditioning is on the blink and you have resorted to winding the windows down, their songs can be played at weddings and funerals to say I love you, or goodbye. They are songs that encapsulate all the emotions you have experienced growing up: love, loss, anxiety, exhilaration, confusion, forgiveness. If you haven't heard Crowded House you're missing out!

  • Where a life-long love affair with music began

Crowded House started from the ashes of Split Enz in 1985. Crowded House's self-titled debut got little backing from the record company except for Gary Stamler who kept pushing the record until it broke the US market. This was the start of a decade-long love affair with the band until their split in 1996. For me Crowded House is where a life-long love affair with music began. My first concert was a Crowded House gig and Neil Finn was an inspiration for me to take up the guitar I am now so passionate about. The fact that 8 years on they are still being remembered as one of the greastest bands of all time and their songs are timeless says a lot about the quaility of their music, which can not be said about many performers today.

  • Soulful tunes

Well Neil Finn is the most gorgeous, sexy man on this earth - lol - but no I love Crowded House, they rock my world and I listen every day to stuff by them or Neil solo. I have been a fan for over 20 years and their music will never be far from my music player - the soulful tunes rock :) [See the Finn Brothers entry too!]

  • I've never seen a grown man cry so much

The house was crowded and it was time for my brother, 18 months my junior to go on his big overseas experience. As I drove him to the Airport I bawled like a baby. My brother, a typical Kiwi bloke looked at me in disgust. "What the hell are you crying about, you big sook?". Then I told him I Loved him, I'd miss him, and then I gave him my most prized possession, a signed copy of a Crowded House CD. A disc the two of us had sung along to on many occasions. I've never seen a grown man cry so much, especially a Rugby front row forward! That CD went with my brother all around Europe. A decade has passed and my brother has lost many things, but not our Crowded House CD.
