Blue causes a physical reaction in every fan
University of Kentucky Basketball is one of the strongest Lovemarks I know. When I attended university there, and danced there, I realised that the Univ of Kentucky basketball team was a truly impactful part of every person there. Some of the poorest families in KY spend half of their salary on season tickets. The fight song or the color blue causes a physical reaction in every fan. And once people are a fan, they are a fan for a lifetime... or die trying! It is so much more than a basketball team or a brand, it is like a child or a parent. It embraces mystery and intimacy, sadness and intense joy, memories that are integral to childhood and relationships. The players and coaches are held up in a godlike status that becomes almost mythical. The brand delivers the sort of passion and emotion that any brand would kill for, and will continue to remain strong for years to come.
