For those who love what we eat
Having achieved success as a chef, Rick Stein no longer needs to spend his days and nights in the kitchen. As pleasant to meet 'in the flesh' as he comes across in his television appearances, Rick is a passionate believer in the quality of the food as the most important ingredient in a good meal. Locally grown, small producer, fresh produce will win over any over-prepared fancy 'gourmet' meal for Rick. Concerned about the sustainability of the harvest of some seafood species, Rick has also spoken out on some practices in the fishing industry. More than a cooking show, more than a travelogue; Rick Stein's "Food Heroes" television series is my must-watch for those who love what we eat.

A genuine, infectious passion
He's one of a small army of UK TV chefs, but he's different. He has a genuine passion which is infectious. He expresses his disgust at how pitiful the menus are around Britain for their lack of local dishes. He's also a champion of small producers who in turn reflect his own passion for doing things properly. If he started a movement to promote and preserve great British dishes, I'd join immediately.
