  • LOVE LOVE LOVE my PTV.

For the past 20 years, I have either worked for or volunteered for public television. The first time I saw Masterpiece Theatre was in college, (The 6 wives of Henry the VIII) and I had no idea television could be so beautiful and compelling. Now I love to see Frontline and NOW kick-ass with corporate "doublespeakers" and still laugh my you-know-what off at Fawlty Towers. And I actually believe things that their newscasters say -- as opposed to the local news that I just watch for the "shootings" report.

  • Reminding the world that America is great

For the Charlie Rose Show. For somewhere to see Richard Serra or Bernardo Bertolucci speak without pretension. For reminding the world that America is great — until we see Fox News next.

  • Zestified

Where would I be without The News Hour with Jim Lehrer? How could I go on without catching a glimpse of Margaret Warner's oh-so tight face and mushroom cloud hair? How could I not be zestified by the allure of Gwen Iffil's quick and tempting remarks? How could I not yawn uncontrollably throughout those boring editorial videos they tack on the end of program? Every weeknight at 7pm, baby, I wait for you. Give me that International news with an upper-middle class syntax.

  • It speaks to our intelligence

Because it inspires, educates, elevates and opens our mind. Because it speaks to our intelligence instead of our stupidity, like almost everything else on TV. Because without it TV land would be a void.
