  • A once a week treat to me

It's pretty funny because I grew up in Brazil the first 6 years of my life and they had a version of ramen noodles that featured a famous local cartoon "turma da Monica", so I knew them all my life as the "Monica noodles". I had no idea they were a worldwide phenomenon, in my mind they were a brilliant Brazilian marketing invention! I then moved to Uruguay, a country devoid of Monica noodles...they became a delicacy to me. I would crave them and when I would travel to Brazil I would come back stocked. Needless to say when I moved to the US and found out they are cheaper than bus fare I was shocked!! Happily shocked!! I love to cook and I love preparing gourmet meals, but this 3 minute marvel is a steady once a week treat to me.

  • A comfort food

I grew up with this brand of Japanese instant noodles, with a variety of flavors that is always stocked on Chinese supermarket shelves. It functions much like Campbell's chicken noodle soup for me, as a comfort food. My mom used to, and still, cooks this for me when I am sick and it is the only thing I can stomach when I am feeling ill. Though instant noodles are not even regarded as the same league as fast food, and is considered to be loaded with MSG and is the epitome of unhealthy eating habits, it never fails to give me a sense of comfort.
