Brings an awareness of social conscious within his gritty, cool, noiresque novels by virtue of his definitive, flawed yet moralistic character, Easy Rawlins. He is in my eyes a modern day literary icon, both in his analysis of today's interracial 'topography' and his effortless storytelling. Simply, a superbly gifted wordsmith.
