Donkey Coffee and Espresso

I love it here

Located just off of the red brick main-street of Athens, Ohio - home of Ohio University - Donkey Coffee and Espresso serves up a home brewed helping of caffeine with a conscience. I first stumbled upon the Donkey during my freshman year at OU. It's like a small house - cozy and quiet - usually packed with college students studying or talking or, in my case, checking out the local music scene. I'm a musician and I've played a lot of venues, but the tiny nook of a back room at the Donkey is without question my favorite place on earth to play. This is where you can get in close with your audience. The room hosts has an instant connection between performer and listener thanks to natural acoustics, perfectly dim lighting and amazing people (somehow the good crowds always find their way into this great spot). On top of all this, the vanilla chai tea at this place is heavenly - it's incredible - it's perfection in mug - nothing could possibly be better on earth! I've spent many a night at Donkey listening to the best unknown music in Athens county (possibly the world), sipping on a cup of vanilla chai and playing Apples to Apples with the best people I've ever known. I love it here.
