The One
I have always loved the Selmer Mk 6 line of horns from the time I started playing in jazz clubs when I was sixteen in 1968. Why? The Mark VI is probably the most famous horn in the world because it had “it”, and because my hero’s all played them, John Coltrane for one. If you wanted a pro horn in 1960’s there really was only one choice. Selmer. Just outside of DC in a music store that pros dealt with, my dreams for the perfect horn came to true. Upon my arrival I was taken to a back room where before me were stacks and stacks of Selmer Mk 6 Tenor saxophones, they said "Have fun". Not a problem... I spent the next hour or 2 playing tenor after tenor until I found IT… “The One”. You know “It -The One” when you feel like you’ve found a missing part of your body, the Love of your life, actually that came later when I met my wife. It was like my Porsche, hot, fast, and nimble in the curves, and yet has this deep rich throaty sound that resonates with your soul…What wasn’t there to love?

It creates the most intrigue.
I'm not much of a sax player, I just dabble around in it. But of all the saxes on the market, the Selmer Mark VI creates the most intrigue, emits the sexiest sounds, and connects you with the jazz greats who blew their hearts through one of these great horns. Even when it sits idle, it commands respect and makes you wonder what it will do next.
