The first notebook that I've ever owned that just 'works'
I love my ThinkPad because it’s the first notebook that I’ve ever owned that just ’works’. It’s clear that the manufacturer put a lot of thought into how people really use their notebooks. And given that it is lightweight, and nearly bulletproof, it can travel with me everywhere thus enabling me to be connected always to the Interweb.

I am happy to sacrifice some of my 'cool points'
The ThinkPad is a rugged and reliable tool that just works and does not break. I have worked with notebooks for my entire career and when I first started using the mid level ThinkPad R51 I fell in love. The keyboard is solid and crisp. The choice trackpad or joystick for cursor control is great. The feel I get from this machine is one of a solid and reliable tool, and I would be happy to keep using for years after newer models come out. ThinkPads get that Mac like loyalty beyond reason, though I think it is more deserved for ThinkPads. Macs are elegant and work well, but nobody could reasonably expect anything to recoverable after running one over with a truck, much less powering it up again. These ThinkPad stories are common and documented. I am happy to sacrifice some of my ’cool points’ for this sort of dependability.
