Herman Miller began in 1923 as a manufacturer of traditional residential furniture. Its world headquarters are located in Zeeland, Michigan. [The Aeron Chair, right, was designed by Don Chadwick and Bill Stumpf].

Breathlessly excited
Years ago a friend came running into our office breathlessly excited about a chair he’d seen in the furniture shop below. It was, he said, strangely like a "hammock". I was soon to encounter this epiphany of seating, run my hands over it’s sleek, organic curves – what I was seeing was one of the first Aeron Chairs... & within 48 hours I owned one. Nothing has given me as much consistent and enduring joy over the years Its beauty has never faded in my eyes, I sit in it feeling protected ... secure in the knowledge that its ergonomic design is protecting me from harm. When a lever broke I fixed it myself. This process of pulling it to pieces... putting it back together again was such joy – making me feel even closer (beyond reason!) & more intimate with this trusty sitting companion of mine.
