Close to perfect
I found it very easy to love Melbourne when I visited in 1997. I was quite taken by the multi-ethnic cosmopolitan friendliness of the people, and that this character was nicely reflected in the actions of the local government (including the extensive tram network, and the requirement that car drivers turning left do a "hook turn" to avoid blocking a tram). If only Melbourne had Sydney’s weather, it would be close to perfect. I live in Toronto, Canada and our weather isn’t great either but at least we know that a room heater should be equipped with a thermostat, not just an on/off switch, and should be located where its heat will be useful, not up near the ceiling. The comments already posted here make me wonder whether Melbourne residents are resigned to their weather and don’t realize that they can be comfortable when they’re indoors.

Proud of being a Melbournian!
It's voted the world's most livable city! A city full of energy and passions for sports, fashion and art. It hosted the 1956 Olympics, it holds the one of the four tennis Grand Slam - the Australia Open, and this year it is hosting the 2006 Commonwealth Games this year! Being one of a fashion capital in the world and having 'four seasons in a day' we have the widest ranges of fashion available. I'm proud of being a Melbournian!

Right into the very heart of the city
The world's most liveable city and it is not hard to see why. Melbourne has great weather, great culture, great food, great scenery and great people. Melbourne manages to feel as sophisticated as New York yet has the relative calmness of a much smaller town. It is dynamic yet subtle, classy but not flashy. It never gets too hot or too cold and it never stays at one end of the scale for too long here. There is a famous saying about Melbourne's weather, "if you don't like it just wait a minute". Melbourne has a fantastic network of offroad bicycle paths that allow a walker or a cyclist to walk or ride from anywhere to almost anywhere in the metropolis. These off road tracks are along beautifully preserved linear parks that bring the bush and nature right into the very heart of the city. Melbourne is surrounded by a calm unpolluted bay on one side and the Great Dividing Range to the North and East. The low crime rate means I feel safe walking anywhere and at anytime, something that cannot be said of most major cities. Its got some of the best restaurants that serve every cuisine under the sun. Lastly, it's also one city where the water straight out of the tap tastes better than bottled water.
