Respect to those who dare!
Vegemite is something I just don’t understand. I remember my roomie in Australia eating five toast every morning covered with this weird and disgusting looking spread. I didn’t wanted to die a fool so I decided to overcome my fear and try. The thing is I’m really able to eat anything in world, so why would this strange little yellow thing resist me? I tried and spat it all directly in the sink. Thick, salty, sticky. How can you eat this, moreover for breakfast??? Anyway, It remains a big symbol of Oz, and respect to those who dare!

Only one way to eat Vegemite
There is only one way to eat Vegemite. Burnt Vogels, make sure it is nicely black just around the edges, let it cool down enough so that the lashings of Fernleaf butter doesn’t melt too much and then Vegemite - mmmm!!!

A major part of Aussie life
I thought perhaps someone should write on here the correct way to eat Vegemite. I heard that they promoted it in the US a long time ago, and it failed - they were probably just doing it wrong! The best way according to most of us is to apply butter or marg to your toast, however you like it. Then apply a very, very thin layer of Vegemite. Very thin. If you’ve never had it before, you want it to barely darken the bread. Just try it. You might convert! Like most other Aussies, I was weaned on the stuff. I used to have it thickly on toast, no butter, and so thick on crumpets it filled the holes! And another proof that Vegemite is a major part of Aussie life: Army ration packs have cans of the stuff!

The perfect way to wake up
Yum, there’s nothing like making a sweet, milky cup of tea with a perfectly baked toast spread with butter and Vegemite! The perfect way to wake up (or have anytime really!)

The first mouthful
I remember an American friend coming to visit, and trying vegemite for the first time, she spread it onto toast like jam. After the first mouthful glued itself to the roof of her mouth, she flung the remainder out the kitchen window - of course, it flipped midair, and landed on the roof of my car where it stayed for the few hours she was visiting. I still have a square of missing duco that I proudly show to all and sundry...

I fell in love with Vegemite
I was born, raised and live in the USA. But in the short time I lived in Australia I fell in love with Vegemite. I'm having some right now from the tube I keep in my desk drawer at work. Mmmm. Back to work.

Australia's ultimate lovemark
I think Vegemite is certainly Australia's ultimate lovemark. Kevin Roberts speaks of how people nearly lost it when the cocacola company toyed with changing the taste of Coke. Just imagine if the people down at Kraft tinkered with Vegemite! There would be riots and hysteria all over Australia! Australians love Vegemite and feel a sense of ownership about it. This is when a Brand becomes a true lovemark, Kraft own the company but Australian's own Vegemite.

They thought it was mighty delicious
Now that I'm living overseas again, Vegemite seems more important. In Australia, it's just such a normal part of everyday life. I grew up on it and now my children crave it almost every day. It does seem to be something you need to be exposed to early though - my German husband doesn't quite share our enthusiasm!! Although hiking in India with Germans and a Pom years ago who supposedly couldn't stand it - well, suffice it to say, they thought it was mighty delicious with chapatis cooked fresh over the fire! And don't open your prized Vegemite in a youth hostel when you're backpacking. You're sure to attract every Aussie/Kiwi and who knows else at breakfast time - and whilst you make new friends, your precious Vegemite disappears in no time!!

Yum, I love Vegemite
I'm an Aussie, so I grew up on Vegemite. Ok, it's an acquired taste and you have to get the amount just right. But nothing can beat the taste of Vegemite on toast with real butter, except maybe Vegemite and butter mixed with mashed potatoes and pumpkin, or lamb shank soup with Vegemite for flavour...and what about Cheesymite rolls from the hot bread shop! Yum, I love Vegemite.
