A community fixture
This amazing and well-beloved independent grocery store is a community fixture in Berkeley, California. It's a 44,000 square-foot cornucopia of gorgeous produce, health-oriented groceries, fresh artisan breads, wine, excellent fish and meats, and prepared food that lives up to the high standards of the gourmet ghetto that is Berkeley. The place is packed every moment it's open, a mecca of deliciousness that's been part of the community since it opened in a former bowling alley (hence its name). The owners make every attempt to hire from the local community, and are socially responsible as well.
