  • A life changing experience

I joined Girl Scouts when I was 11 years old - the age when most people were quitting. I remained part of a troop through my senior year of high school. Sometimes i hated it, sometimes I loved it, but the one thing that never changed was how much i enjoyed going to summer camp with the GS. Where I lived, the camp i went to was called Camp Tohikanee. I went there for 6 years as a camper, and this past summer i worked there as an Adventure Director. At GS camp I made some of the most amazing and long lasting friendships with both campers and counselors alike. It was an amazing place where everyone was treated as if they had the potential to change the world. It was there that I learned to ride a horse, tie knots, belay, and start a one match fire. I also took home with me invaluable memories and life lessons (such as trust, team building skills, the importance of communication, confidence, and a sense of wonder). I will never forget my time there and how much it truly changed my life for the better. I thank my God for giving me the opportunity to go and encourage others to make the same decision because it truly honestly is, a life changing experience.

  • Meaningful and positive

I had a wonderful experience with Girl Scouts in high school, working hard at projects and forming lasting friendships. My senior years were capped by a trip to Mexico and the Girl Scout Center in Cuernavaca, and I've never enjoyed an experience more. When my daughter started kindergarten I volunteered to co-lead her troop. I've completed my fourth year as a leader and have also become involved at a council level. My daughter loves all the things she gets to do with Girl Scouts, and it has helped her to become friends with girls who otherwise might not have been part of her circle. I can't say enough good things about GSUSA and all the opportunities it offers to every girl, everywhere. Girls and young women are besieged by pop culture icons and attitudes 24x7, and Girl Scouts provides much more meaningful and positive activities and experiences.
