Buzzy Bee

The Buzzy Bee is a brightly coloured, wooden pull-along toy. It was designed and first produced in the 1940s by Hec and John Ramsey and is a major New Zealand icon.

  • More than what it is

Ask any New Zealander what a Buzzy Bee is and they will probably tell you about the many happy memories they have of playing with one. This toy has been around for years (60+) and has appeared on stamps, formed part of art exhibitions all over the world, been played with by royalty, and is still one the most popular children's toys in New Zealand. For me, it represents family and good times and generates the sorts of warm feelings I associate with a Lovemark. I have become an advocate of this little toy, as are most of my friends. A French friend who now lives here sends them home as presents. A friend in New York spent ages tracking one down for a 50th birthday present. The Buzzy Bee deserves to be called a Lovemark because it has come to mean more than what it is.
