Filson

For 107 years, serious outdoorsmen have considered Filson the standard for comfort and severe-weather protection. Beginning in 1897, Clinton C. Filson designed his goods for the extreme conditions of the Klondike, based on the experience of the hundreds of gold rush "Stampeders" he outfitted.

  • Sentimental times and special occasions...

My Filson Packer jacket is 12 years old and just starting to work in nicely. I feel an emotional attachment when I put on my jacket. This is due to all of the sentimental times and special occassions that I've worn it. I dream of someday owning the Bridle Leather Satchel from Filson. Until then, I can still fit my Moleskine Journal in the front pocket, and it sits in there nicely as I walk along the shore each morning.

  • In my next life, I'll be a lumberjack...

Filson's outdoor clothing for men is nearly indestructible, old-fashioned handsome, and resolutely unstylish. The Filson catalogue has testimonials from guys who've fallen into icy water, gotten lost in blizzards, etc - but survived because of a Filson garment. Owning their "double Mackinaw Cruiser" coat makes me wish Chicago had colder winters. In my next life, I'll be a lumberjack so I can own Filson's very best stuff.
