Excellent architecture and fine dining. One of the best cities in the country.

  • The Paris of the US

Chicago has vitality and beauty unlike any other city in the US. The museums, the shopping, the nightlife and, most importantly, the people, truly make it special. Chicago is the Paris of the US.

  • Best-kept secret

For me, Chicago is the nation's best-kept secret. Beautiful, clean, exciting. Johnson's famous quote about London is equally applicable here: "If a man is tired of Chicago, he's tired of life."

  • A place I know I want to return to

I first visited Chicago on a business trip back in the 80s. I played "hookey" one morning and went to the Art Institute to see a Gauguin exhibit. The exhibit was great, the museum was lovely. I was delighted to see Edward Hopper and some wonderful Marc Chagal windows. This year I made a short visit to see the Seurat "Sunday at La Grande Jatte" exhibit there. Very worth while. As a bonus, I visited the new Millenium Park on Michigan Avenue several times. It is fun, stunning, and a place I know I want to return to. Chicago is pretty affordable, the people are friendly and helpful, the city has a clever and cheap transportation system (don't rent a car, it would be silly) and the food is a treat. Especially nice is the Chicago Firehouse on South Michigan.

  • Broad Shoulders

This beautiful Windy City by the lake is a treasure. It has great restaurants, fantastic museums, and a wonderful Buckingham Fountain in Grant's Park. The sports teams inspire great loyalty. Many football fans still live in 1985, and still listen to the SuperBowl Shuffle. Michael Jordan is still on the lips and breath of every basketball fan as the greatest player in the game. Hockey fans reminisce about the early 90s. Everyone knows about the Lovable Losers on the North Side in the Friendly confines. If you find yourself in the City of Broad Shoulders, take a ride up the Sears Tower, look out from the 102nd floor, and you'll see a bustling metropolis of people who really do care.
