The things we take for granted
Bonomo Turkish Taffy
23 December 2005
I remember this candy and the prominent "B" on the package. I remember the commercials that showed you how to smash it into pieces. When I actually got a bar and tried it, I lost most of the pieces and the pieces I did manage to eat were sharp. The article mentioned Wonderama, and that is where I probably saw the commercial (I remember both Sonny Fox and Bob McAllister hosting the show). It's too bad that a lot of the things we take for granted (such as regional candy) disappear before we can truly appreciate them.
An almost guaranteed great read
Stephen King
23 December 2005
I have read virtually everything he has ever written. By this point of my life SK owes me about three weeks of sleep, that I have lost over the years by reading his books instead of getting a good night's sleep. I thought he would retire after the Red Sox won the Series two years ago and finishing the Dark Tower Series, but he just won't stop! It may not be "L" iterature, but it's an almost guaranteed great read when it's a Stephen King book.
Another reasure for my Zork trophy case
Infocom
23 December 2005
This is the company that used to publish the Zork games and similar text-only adventures that I played on my Commodore 128. I wasted many hours playing Zork, Zork II, Zork III, Starcross, Leather Goddesses of Phobos, and the other varied titles. I hear that you can download the Zork games to your PDA now, but it isn't the same as waiting for the mighty 1571 disk drive to whir and click when I entered the right word and got another treasure for my Zork trophy case in the white house with the mailbox to the west of it.
