“The Pretender” is a brilliant series whose lifetime was tragically cut short in the all too rapid pace of prime time television. The storylines are clean, and the characters are intriguing. Nobody is simply good or simply bad, but a complex mixture of motives, obligations, and personality. The primary character, Jarod, is an everyday hero and friend, as well as an unfortunate product of devious corporate intentions he seeks to reveal. Each episode is wonderfully packed with intense drama, action, and a breath of comic relief. The DVD releases are not only renewing old fans, but also generating new fans and a legacy beyond the reach of prime time television ratings.
