    • It's become like a trusty Mag-lite

      The FADER

      25 August 2005

The FADER's content easily separates it from every other music magazine while it's looks and layout are on par with the best lifestyle mags in the world. I was at first attracted to the appearance - it's a magazine I liked to look at on a train - but now it's become like a trusty Mag-lite, illuminating the underground. When asked why The FADER is the only magazine I subscribe to, I relay the story of Henry David Thoreau in jail for civil disobedience because of his refusal to pay federal taxes: Ralph Waldo Emerson showed up one day and asked "Henry, why are you in jail?" Thoreau responded "Ralph, why aren't you in jail?" Well, it's not like being in jail, actually - don't let me get carried away.

    • It is indeed the ultimate Lovemark

      Avant-Guide Travel Books

      15 May 2007

Real insight hits us in ways surprisingly always pragmatic, as though an always there awareness was finally revealed. Avant-Guide Travel Books are back pocket time machines, reading the pages, peeling away the (seriously) back pocket city maps, never once seems like a chore, something one does so they kind of see their surroundings - with this informative series, enjoying uniquely local insight from a global viewpoint, and with ease, we’re reminded of creative minds like David Ogilvy, who once asked Sir Hugh Rigby, Surgeon to King George V "What makes a great surgeon?" Sir Hugh replied, "There isn’t much to choose between surgeons in manual dexterity. What distinguishes the great surgeon is that he knows more than other surgeons." With Avant-Guide I do feel as though I simply know more than others, may their minds soon be enlightened. It is indeed the ultimate Lovemark.

    • Not another label comes stronger

      Warp Records

      22 May 2007

Warp Records is the friend a high school or college student meets when standing in line at graduation. Perhaps the two had shared nervous glances 4 years back at freshman orientation; perhaps not, but then, right there, in those thirty seconds or so of conversation a friendship is formed, experiences are shared. And we all know the regret that comes with wondering how much sweeter a life with Warp would’ve been had this friendship formed sooner. For it seems at times, not another label comes stronger. Those times come frequently with a Warp Records release, and most frequently with those by artists like!!! Boards of Canada, Broadcast, Grizzly Bear, Jamie Lidell, or Maximo Park.

    • Home to such neighborhood necessities

      Park Slope, Brooklyn

      22 May 2007

Park Slope is the bohemian, green, Brooklyn neighborhood home to such neighborhood necessities as the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Museum, and Grand Army Plaza of Prospect Park. Also known for its architecture - its seemingly endless churches & brownstones - and just one train stop from Manhattan across the East River, Park Slope was named by Natural Home magazine as one of America’s top 10 "eco-friendly" neighborhoods.

    • Embraced the digital age

      EMI

      17 August 2007

In an industry of dwindling oft hindered by a long-established status quo protected by lifelong relationships, the EMI Music Group has embraced the digital age with an innovative strategy that acknowledges the extent to which music permeates all facets of culture, of life, all the while leveraging its outstanding roster of artists and labels - like Blur, Interpol, Lily Allen, and Radiohead.

    • I'm totally in love with it

      Utterz

      19 September 2007

Utterz, a completely genius mobile social networking platform, is all about me (and will all be about YOU), takes the good qualities of popular web destinations like YouTube and Twitter, while facilitating user-generated content all from one’s mobile phone, and then mashes together voice, video, pictures, and text, into a single Utter, a wholly aggregated player that can be embedded wherever YOU are, whether Facebook, MySpace, Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, etc. Allows instant mobile blogging? Yes. Ideal for the community scrapbooking of shared experiences? Yes. Something so rad that I’m totally in love with it? Without a doubt, YES!
