    • Love that still burns bright

      Fred Perry

      17 September 2010

When I was a kid I shared a bedroom with my older brother. I had the bottom bunk, he had the top. My view when I woke up every morning, was his record player and a big, proud stack of vinyl. That vinyl was every single, and every album that The Jam had released at that point (probably some time during 1981, I was four). Paul Weller therefore became part of my consciousness. As I got older, my love for him, his music, his attitude, and his modernist influences and style, grew and grew until it outstripped my brothers. From this grew a love of Fred Perry that still burns bright and strong to this day, and it always will. Cool, elegant, sharp, mod, casual. Who would have though a polo shiirt could be so much, and say so much, and yet it does, and always will.

      Epiphone

Stunning guitars. That is what Epiphone produce. A long and fascinating history stretching back over a 100 years, punctuated constantly with great, iconic, cool, stunning guitars. Played by rock stars and pub bands and bedroom dreamers (me included) the world over. One of the ultimate models of all time must be the Epiphone Casino, bought by all three guitar playing Beatles in 1964, and many other notables since. My Beatles fanatisicm ensured that I would forever be in awe of Epiphone from then on. Talking of iconography, the Union Jack emblazoned guitar made famous by Noel Gallagher of Oasis, during their 1990's hugeness, was also an Epiphone. My musical heroes, playing Epiphones. That's why I still do.
