    • Blessed to experience a magical Christmas

      Weihnachten

      21 June 2004

In Germany, a year after its reunification, I was truly blessed to experience a magical Christmas season. The temperatures outside bitterly cold but the liveliness and warmth of the people and traditions, were more than enough to warm my soul. I have colourful, vivid memories of meandering through Weihnachtsmarkt (markets), sipping Gluhwein (mulled red wine), and devouring Berliner (doughnuts), listening to music from the Glockenspiel and bands. There are also side shows and gorgeous gifts like the Nussknacker (nutcracker). I received invitations to enjoy the company of others and feast on cakes and other christmas delicacies. Gardens and houses lit up with tiny glowing lights and decorations and a touch of snow. I have known nothing prior and nothing since that compares to the German celebration of christmas - the ultimate German experience, and one that I am longing to share with my family, more than 14 years on.

Trident or not Trident - there is no question! I grew up with these wonderful knives and chose them for setting up my household. Balanced, sharp and elegant, they really do make meal preparation a breeze. Faster than a food processor and so affordable considering they last a lifetime (with good care). You just have to try them to appreciate their form and beauty. And what's more Wolfgang Wusthof (CEO) is one of the most amazing people I have ever met - a role model. He has ethics. He is caring, friendly, personable, truthful and trustworthy.

    • No compromise

      Cuisinart Food Processor

      21 June 2004

Food processors are one of those areas where you can't try before you buy. Its a shame really as Cuisinart would win hands down on both size and grunt - you know... the power that a machine has to do the job. And the size to be able to fit all the ingredients in for the recipes you know and love without having to compromise or re-work them. Others whine and squeal while the nuts are struggling to be ground, or clunk and bang with dough in the bowl. Not with the Cuisinart. I would rather have ONE Cuisinart Food Processor than a mixer, a grinder, a blender and a hand wand.

    • The best we've tested

      Mozilla

      21 June 2004

My husband plonked Mozilla on our computer in another effort to upgrade our system, which has programs come and go each month. After all as an IT guy it's his duty to use all our bandwidth!! In reality I think it was a defiant act against a mainstream software company. Needless to say it has stayed and provided us with the best browser and email program we have tested. I love the tabbed browsing and bookmarks and how the browser is integrated with the email. And you gotta love no pop-ups - yippee! All your email accounts are visible at the same time - no 'changing identities'. And of course, being FREE doesn't hurt!
