    • Love and respect abound

      Trader Joe's

      23 October 2007

Trader Joes is not only unique in the food it offers but also in the way it treats its employees and customers. Love and respect abound at Trader Joes. Everytime I fly home to the US from England, I find the nearest one to see if they carry some of my favorite items (soytzels, California Wines, TJ Coffee, dark chocolate) and buy a new carrier bag to remind me that some day I can leave Tesco behind!

    • Worth sipping

      Patron Reposado

      24 October 2007

There are few tequilas in this world that are worth sipping. The day my dad brought me my first bottle of Patron Reposado, I was a convert. His guiding message: this is good stuff, don't waste it on a margarita. Do you remember the first time you actually liked the taste of wine (if you can actually think back that far)? Drinking Patron made me feel that way about tequila. This is the tequila you drink before dinner when your taste buds are alive - half a lime, some some ice, and maybe a dash of sweet.

    • No place like it on earth

      Mozambique

      17 December 2007

There is no place like it on earth. I won't romanticise it, because it doesn't do justice to a place and people marked by decades of war that has emerged with kindness and understanding at it's core. The most beautiful places I've ever seen lie along the shores of this country and a greater understanding of what being human is emerged for me from knowing the exceptional kindness of people there. This is a shout out to my folks in Maputo!

    • Musician of global proportions

      Ali Farka Toure

      17 December 2007

A musician of global proportions. This Malian guitarist balanced a global following with his life in Mali and made two of the most haunting and beautiful albums I've ever heard. The Heart of the Moon and Talking Timbuktu (which he did with Ry Cooder) should not be missed. There is something incredibly human about this music - every song tells the most incredible story that puts life in perspective.

    • Changed my view of the world

      New Orleans Jazz Fest

      17 December 2007

The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is a religious experience. The things I've heard in the sweltering heat have changed my view of the world. No matter where I am in the world, I'll find my way back to New Orleans every April.

    • The poster child for Lovemarks

      Andres Carne de Res

      09 January 2008

For any of you that are from Bogota or near by in Colombia, seeing this restaurant listed here is no surprise. If the glowing hearts that guide you from the parking lot to the restaurant aren't enough to make you smile, the crazy collection of stuff that decorates the restaurant should...or the bands of comics, actors, musicians and artists that visit the tables should. As if that weren't enough, while you sip your agaurdente your kids are looked after by a team of the most competant camp counselors I have ever seen. It looks chaotic, but it is an organised chaos and you soon realise that waiters and caretakers are miked and communicating to make sure the little ones make it back to your table, or that the wedding party has musicians for their toasts. Generations of families and friends abound, and when the daylight crowd exits a younger (or just braver) crowd arrives to have dinner, dance on the tables, and generally make merry. This place should be the poster child for Lovemarks.

    • Starting with a much smaller footprint

      FuzziBunz

      04 December 2008

FuzziBunz isn't just about preserving the environment, and it isn't just about saving money (although it does both). It is about happy and comfortable babies starting off in the world with a much smaller footprint. These colorful diapers are not disposable and are not 'hybrid' disposables, they are modern cloth diapers. Finally a product that should leave us all without any excuses for using disposable diapers on a regular basis. My family only resorts to disposables on the rare occassion - like a 15 hour flight! Check out their website to see how easy they are to use, and what you'll save over time (and I'm not talking about the thousands of trees you would otherwise wrap around your baby's bottom!).
