    • I can never stop myself from falling in love

      Beirut, Lebanon

      29 May 2007

Beirut is not a major centre of culture nor does it have the kind of sights that many other capitals have, be they in Europe or the Middle East. In fact, Beirut is quite ugly. The contrast between the plethora of hedonist materialist superficiality and the evidence of tough, existential poverty in the city make Beirut an ethical, visual and cultural shock. The intensity of life between these extremes, where politics is still a matter of life and death and where partying, eating and living is as extreme as the politics, make Beirut one of the most exciting cities in the world to visit. It’s a crazy place full of very nice+kind and very bad+fake people and I can never stop myself from falling in love with it - despite myself. Definitely a Lovemark!

    • A Lovemark well worth your attention

      Salamanca

      29 May 2007

Salamanca is rich enough to entice, big enough to entertain, far-away enough to feel like a private discovery. The inner city is a consistent Latin whole - colours, styles - yet different from any other city because of the mix of the university life, rich farming influence, opulent architecture, bleak and arid countryside, superlative local produce (wines and sausages). A Lovemark well worth your attention.
