    • She was the love of my life

      Land Rover

      29 May 2007

She was the love of my life. She took me across Saudi Arabia 10 times from East to West and never gave up on me. She’d carry me a 5 gallon water bottle 1500km and never complain. I could sleep with her whenever I wanted - gas stations in the middle of nowhere, beaches, deserts, mountains, you name it. She helped me rescue 2 Bedouin tribesmen 80 miles inside the desert, and when 3 cars ran into the back of her, she didn’t even flinch. A cracked brake light, and that was all. I had to leave her in the desert. The Saudi police would not allow me to bring her back. She never wore an abaya, she’d just drive around naked and never get a tan. I even travelled right through the middle of Mecca with her, and live to tell the tale. It broke my heart to just leave here there. Every time I see a Discovery now...it has many special meanings, hundreds of happy memories, in a country so desolate you cannot imagine. God bless you LR. Missing you.

    • The feeling was electric

      Tour de France

      09 July 2007

Vive La Tour De France. You cannot imagine how great it feels to be speeding through the French Countryside leading a train of 40 - 60 bikes. All you can hear is the gentle whoosh of the wind in your spokes. Having ridden London to Paris twice, I had to go and see the tour pass through Dartford. The feeling was electric. Masses and masses of people lining the way. Car after car, support vehicles, gendarmerie, ambulances, more police bikes, all whizzing past for 10 minutes...then...silence... and the massive roar as the yellow jersey shoots past and up the hill...an uncomforable silence...then four in hot pursuit...then a great big silence only broken by the helicopter in the sky....and then the pack! What a tour! What a stage, and what a finish! Absolutely Brilliant!!!!
