When I remember my grandfather, it's not the smell of his aftershave, pipe or slippers I remember, it’s these kitsch chocolates. A staple fixture of Christmas mornings was Grandad opening his box of Just Brazils and then waiting until the rest of the family had opened all their gifts before beginning with the rest of his presents. As my brother and I ripped through wrapping paper and compared new toys he would sit munching away - at the time I couldn’t understand his refusal to join in the opening fun but with hindsight I think perhaps for him the fun was watching his family around him. Now that he’s gone, the sight of Just Brazils on a shop shelf still brings a tear to my eye and a smile to my heart.
