BookCrossing

Founded in 2001, BookCrossing encourages people to abandon books so other people can read them for free. It aims "to turn the whole world into a lending library".

BookCrossing has given me another way to express my love of reading and introduced me to a community of caring, supportive, interesting and challenging people with whom I can communicate about books and life. I am very grateful to Reno and his team for the effort, skill and love that they have shared with me and the rest of the BookCrossing community.

  • Perfectly good books in a big dumpster...

Book Crossing is one of the best ideas on the web today! The very first day that I was introduced to this program I began to empty my shelves of books. To imagine that books could be distributed in such fashion, it's great. I used to give my excess books to the public library, because our library has an exchange program that allows folks to take books from a selected set of shelves and racks and exchange them for other books. But I saw the library throwing tons of perfectly good books in a big dumpster. When asked what they were doing they said they were going to burn them. From then on I had no place to leave my books. Now, I not only leave them lying around, I track them and enjoy them over and over as others across the globe experience them as I did.

  • I can hardly find the words to explain...

What can I say about BookCrossing? It's more than a hobby, it's more than an online community, and it's more than just a book exchange service. Yes, BookCrossing is a great way to meet new friends and talk about great books -and about not so great ones. But it's oh so much more. I'm learning a lot, I am having really good moments, I actually love the great experience of our meet ups and... and.... I can hardly find the words to explain who much I Love BookCrossing !

  • I can't imagine not having BookCrossing anymore.

At last I've found a site that love books as much as me, and is prepared to share them with the world ! I can't imagine not having BookCrossing anymore.

  • I could not bring myself to throw away a book...

I have always tried to find a way to "recycle" books. I could not bring myself to throw away a book. They give me such joy! I also could not keep every book I ever got. I began to pass up books, even if they were free (what sacrilege!), just because I had nowhere to put them. BookCrossing is one of the best ideas to come along. I LOVE it when someone logs in a rescue, and I get excited if I find a book in the wild.

  • Incredible

This is the most incredible website (and idea) I think I have ever come across. Reading is something that gives me a lot of pleasure, and it's fantastic to think that I could be sharing this with someone who may not visit libraries or bookshops regularly. Thank you bookcrossing.com!

  • The entire concept was brilliant

BookCrossing is great! The entire concept was brilliant. What a great way to meet some wonderful people and share books at the same time. I can't begin to tell you how much I look forward to BookCrossing meet ups to meet with my local BookCrossing friends. It's great fun to see a book travel from place to place being appreciated and enjoyed by others.

  • The best part

The best part is reading the notes of folks who find the books I release. The best was from a mom and son who had just been discussing what he should do with his life and what type of work he should seek when they found "What would Buddha do at work?" left in the Denver airport.

  • A great way to share the joy of reading

Bookcrossing makes me feel good, every time I release a book, see that it was captured, or visit the site. It's a great way to share the joy of reading with the world!

  • Has changed my life

Bookcrossing has changed my life. That may sound dramatic, and while it isn't dramatic, it HAS changed my life. In my whole life I have never before met so many warm and generous people in just one year, in just one group, joined by just that one idea of sharing one's books. My Bookcrossing friends are true friends and I'm amazed by it every day. I love BC and the people that brought this to life.
