Gentle innocence
Manatees are gentle creatures and gentleness is a quality that is much needed in the complex, chaotic world we live in. The manatees are living emblems of the new, growing movement of 'slowness' that is gaining in popularity in the world at this time, reminding us to slow down, pause, take a time out, and reflect on the exquisite beauty that surrounds us, if we allow ourselves to pay attention to it. Manatees are so gentle and graceful, they are known as the cows of the sea, and they are endangered, innocent victims of our societal craving for speed. Manatees touch my heart with their gentle innocence and we need their presence in the world as shining lights of goodness.
