  • I live in a bagpuss world

Bagpuss, oh Bagpuss. What can I say? He is my world. I love him. I am surrounded by him every where. I could not live without him. I live in a bagpuss world.

  • It's the mice that I've always loved the best

Yes, I've always loved Bagpuss too, and now we have it on DVD for my little boy to watch. To be frank, Bagpuss is sweet but it's the mice that I've always loved the best. The marvellous mechanical mouse organ!! A true classic, and still enjoyable 30 odd years on.

  • A very special warmth

Bagpuss was made in the 1970s by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin in a Barn in Kent where they also made The Clangers, Noggin the Nog, Ivor the engine and Pogles Wood. Bagpuss, like their other programs, possessed a very special warmth and intriguing quality to it that has never quite been topped by any modern day kids TV. The fact that it was voted the best all time children's TV program on a recent BBC poll, and is still shown from time to time just shows how this little brand of film called Bagpuss made such a deep and lasting impression in the minds of those who watched it as a child.

  • After all these decades

After all these decades, please forgive me if I've got the words mangled (and I'll spare you the Marvelouse Mechanical Mouse Organ song) but indulge my sheer wonder and enjoyment of this enchanted piece of my childhood... "Bagpuss, oh Bagpuss, oh fat furry sag puss, wake up and look at this thing that I bring. Wake up, be bright, be golden and light - oh Bagpuss, oh hear what I sing!"

  • Broken things could be mended

Bagpuss was just an old saggy cloth cat. baggy, and a bit loose at the seams - but what charisma! Only thirteen episodes about him were ever made for British television and that was thirty years ago. Pretty much the same thing happened in every episode. Emily, the little girl who owned the shop where Bagpuss lived would bring in something that had been damaged. Under the warmth of Emily's love, Bagpuss and his friends would come to life, the object would be mended, the toys would sing and then Bagpuss would go to sleep and that was it until next time. But we had learned that broken things could be mended and people will still love you when you're old and saggy. The world was safe.
