Care Bears
The Care Bears characters were created in 1981 at American Greetings, but weren't sold as toys and other products until 1983. To keep the character program secret until it was ready to be advertised, it was called Project II by American Greetings and the company's partners.

Came alive
The Care Bears, known as "America's Teddy Bear" with sales reaching 40 million within their five year debut, came alive not only in our imaginations but in The Care Bear Movie and showed us not only the magical Care Bear stare, but taught us how to care. The loveable Care Bears communicated values to carry through to adulthood ... feelings, friendship, respect for other people. Caring is important and I think it is great that Care Bears have re-emerged as a trend, making appearances on shows such as The OC. The Care Bears and the magical fantasy of Care-a-Lot is enough to inspire high love and high respect for any bear, from Funshine Bear to Share Bear.
