It’s got a big cult following
If you say the name “King’s Hawaiian Bread”, you don’t often get a ton of reaction. But if you say “The big round bread in the orange package”, you’ll get a lot of “Oh yeah, I love that bread” or “Those rolls are awesome”. I grew up having King’s Hawaiian Bread at family gatherings. My mom used to make dip bowls and large family-sized sandwiches for the 4th of July, Easter and many other casual get-togethers. I still love the sweet, soft stuff. These days, my kids eat King’s Hawaiian dinner rolls at dinner, or in their lunch box, and I make French Toast with it on weekends. Out here in Southern California it’s got a big cult following. In the South Bay they’ve also got 2 restaurants. One is a fast-casual diner called The Local Place Bakery & Cafe, which is right next door to the original bakery. The other is called King’s Hawaiian Bakery & Restaurant and its more of a sit down, casual coffee shop. Both are worth visiting to try authentic Hawaiian food and great baked goods. I’ve had a few birthday cakes from there. It’s an indulgent treat that I’d truly miss if I moved somewhere that they didn’t carry it.
