Gene Kelly was an American dancer, actor, singer, director, producer and choreographer. He was named among the Greatest Male Stars of All Time by the Amerinca Film Institute in 1999.

Puts a smile on my face
Gene Kelly means a lot to me because he reminds me of my grandmother. We would watch his films over and over again. When I was a little girl, it was my dream to one day be able to dance with him. Although that did not happen, when I see him in film or clips of him dancing, it always puts a smile on my face.

The king of the movie musical
This man is the king of the movie musical. I grew up watching movies like "Singing in the Rain," "On The Town," and "An American in Paris" with my mom on rainy days when my dad was at work and I didn't have to go to school. I learned every word to every song and loved the "magic of the movies". My mom would say "that is how you treat a lady" and I would recite the perfect lines like a little Gene Kelly puppet. Gene wasn't like most of the other guys in movie musicals - he was a man's dancer - strong and masculine while all the time boyish and charming. I took tap for 2 years in high school trying to be that kind of man - I was never a very good tap dancer, but I eventually got the charm part down okay(!) An incredible dancer with a love for tricks and "dream sequences," Kelly's work is recognizable at first glance. Gene Kelly was a dancer, a singer, an entertainer and a role model.
