The Sopranos is an American television drama about a New Jersey mafia boss and his family. The show was created by David Chase for the HBO network and aired its last episode on June 10, 2007.

Completely hooked
I caught onto the Sopranos very late – my wife and I watched the first five seasons on DVD last summer, often watching 3 or 4 episodes a night. We were, as you can tell, completely hooked. Why? The scripts are superb, the acting is uniformly brilliant and the narrative is as free-flowing, random and amoral as real life. There is brutal violence and there are some really nasty characters, but they don’t get their comeuppance or ‘learn to be better people’. There’s no redemption for anyone. Again, just like real life…
