Optus, or SingTel Optus Pty Limited, is the second largest telecommunications company in Australia. The company provides mobile and Internet services.

Introduced the concept of service
Optus was the first alternative to Telstra, Australia's monolithic telecoms provider. Optus gave people a choice from the frustration of dealing with Telstra (then Telecom). Optus introduced the concept of service to the Australian telco industry and for the first few years that was its defining characteristic, and as poor as it is today, it is still a countrywide mile better that Telstra in servicing its customers.
