The readers are a well-informed club
The Times is more than just a news medium - I can get that from the BBC site. Its place in my affections is driven by its traditional elements, like the crossword, but more importantly by the sense that the readers are a well-informed club. Why? The legendary letters pages. Overeducated, ridiculous, often highly amusing. The one letter I had published still stands as my proudest achievement.
