Take your soul to the Golden Gate

Ever since I was old enough to pick my favourite picture in a book, I have doted on the Golden Gate Bridge from afar. It took me a quarter of a century, and thousands of airline miles, to encounter its ruddy mass up close but it did not disappoint. I cannot live by it, but my pilgrimages will continue, on foot, by sea and on wheels. Just a tiny glimpse through the fog speaks oceans about its streamlined, functional beauty. Leave your heart in San Francisco, but take your soul to the Golden Gate.
